pages 575-585
Vocabulary- there were no words that i didn't really understand i just thought it was neat how they gave a definition for legend, epic, medieval romance , and chivalry.
Summary - Merlin gives Arthur to foster parents to keep hid identity hidden until it is his time be king. Then Merlin dies and Britain is fought for by Barons. Then there is a competition to see who can pull the sword out of the stone and the one person who does is the only one to be king. Arthur pulls out the sword and everyone kneels to him and asks for his forgiveness and are happy for him to be their king.
Thoughts- I think that Arthur will be a king who always tries to make the best decision for Britain and always look out for everyone. I think he will do everything in his power to make all the people of Britain happy.
Pages 587-598
Vocabulary- lecherous was a word i didn't know. I figured out it has to do with lust.
Summary- Sir launcelot wants too look for adventure and falls asleep under a tree. Sir Ector end up at Tarquine's castle, where he is beaten. Then Sir Launcelot helps Bagdemagus by fighting for him. Launcelot frees the prisoners in Tarquine's castle and tells them to take what they want because he killed Tarquine. Launcelot defeats two giants in king Arthur's court and he became the most famous Knight.
Thoughts- I think that the code of chivalry is good and since it states they act if it is for a women, Launcelot helps her by killing the guy that rapes her and to me that's not ideal because even though it is a nice thing to do I believe lots of people would stick up for someone being raped not just perfectionists.
Characters-
Sir Launcelot seems like an epic hero character he is strong and he looks for adventure, helps people solve their problems.
Tarquine he reminded me of Sir Launcelot because he was good at fighting. I didn't like how he kept prisoners and treated him bad and he deserved to die.
Pages 599-604
Vocabulary- I didn't know the words assail and vouchsafed. I looked them up and found out they meant to assault and to give or grant.
Summary- Sir Modred sent a fake letter saying King Arthur was dead and then asked the queen to marry him. Arthur got word of this and he wanted to get revenge. Sir Gawin sends a letter to Sir launcelot asking him to take armies and fight against Sir Modred. King Arthur and Sir Modred fought in a battle with no more then 14 men and Sir Modred's sword went through Arthur's helmet and killed him. Sir Bedivere was to take the sword and throw it in the water. He saw a hand grab the sword wave it three times and disappear.
Connections- King Arthur talks about how Sir Gawain warned him he would die and i connected that to the Iliad when Achilles knew that if he killed hector that he would die soon after.

good summaries of the material! You say you think Arthur will be a king who tries to make the best decisions for Britain - why? How would you compare him to Lancelot? What do you think of Modred's actions to take over Britain?
